Paper and Packaging

Ekman’s Paper & Packaging division is well suited to monitor and manage the global changes in trade flows of corrugated materials, sackkraft, cartonboards, and printing and writing grades.

Global demand for industrial-grade packaging materials continues to increase at a steady rate. This segment is a key part of Ekman’s future and one in which we plan to aggressively invest and expand our resources. Although the demand curve for the printing and writing sector illustrates the ever-changing global paper dynamics, we continue to see many opportunities for these grades. We expect rapidly shifting market fluctuations to continue, and are well prepared for this type of fast business response.

As we continue to expand within the paper and packaging segment, we will maintain our commitment to increasing and repositioning our global resources. Our strategic focus in Europe will be enhanced with a renewed focus in other areas of growth. Ongoing analysis of the trade flows will allow us to maintain our current offices and expand into locations where we will add the most value for our suppliers. Our recent addition of personnel in Asia, North America, Russia and the Middle East will provide the strategic support needed to meet growing demands and create a stronger network.

Adapting to a changing market

We are in the midst of an ongoing expansion in this segment that will certainly change trade flows and the global playing field. The new printing and writing players in Asia are characterized by large plants that have the ability to produce mass volumes of product. These areas are now exporting large quantities to Western markets and displacing local suppliers in North America and Europe, while adding pressure to already competitive prices.  Consumption in the corrugated paper segment is increasing at approximately two to four times the rate of GDP. Changes in packaging standards in many areas will contribute to demand and growth. This growth, coupled with additional changes in trade flows, will offer us new trading opportunities.

Few trading houses can match our combination of vision and talent to prosper in these challenging markets
